Tile
The Tile screen on the right sets name, export size, and editor grid for the pattern unit.
- Title / Size
- On the Tile screen. Title becomes the download filename (default
tile); Size is the export pixel size — try 4096 for print.
- Zoom
- Toolbar zoom: 100% matches the downloaded file. Fit scales the tile to the panel.
- Background
- Open Layers, then tap Background — solid colour or pattern ground (gingham, stripes, dots…).
- Download / Preview
- Download tile saves the composed PNG (hidden layers excluded). Preview this tile opens Preview with the full current stack.
Layers
The right panel shows one screen at a time: Tile, Layers list, layer detail, or sprite detail.
- Layers list
- Add a layer with the bottom row, delete with ✕, reorder with drag or ▲/▼, hide with the eye. Tap a row to open that layer.
- Layer detail
- Tabs Arrange · Adjust · Colour. Back with ‹ Layers. Clear all sprites from the layer via ⋯.
- Stack order
- Order in the Layers list is draw order (bottom = back). Background can sit between motif layers.
Arrange
On a motif layer’s Arrange tab — layouts update the tile instantly (no Apply button).
- Layout cards
- Brick, Half-drop, Grid, Diamond, or Scatter for every sprite on that layer.
- Spacing
- Regular / Tight / Loose. Advanced arrangement options sit in the disclosure below.
- Layer position
- ⇤ / ⇥ move this layer backward or forward in the stack (same as reordering on the Layers list).
Colour
Same modes on a layer or a selected sprite: None · Tint · Recolour · Greyscale.
- Tint
- Soft wash — original hues still show through.
- Recolour
- Dye the motif that colour while keeping light and shadow.
- Greyscale
- Remove colour; strength / tint pickers hide for this mode.
- Layer vs sprite
- Layer Colour affects the whole layer without permanently rewriting each sprite. Sprite Colour stores the effect on the selected motif(s).
Sprites
Click a motif on the active layer to open sprite Adjust / Colour. Only sprites on that layer can be selected.
- Adjust
- Opacity, position, size, rotate, flip, duplicate, delete. Move to layer sends the selection to another layer.
- Multi-select
- Ctrl/⌘+click or Shift+click to add. Ctrl/⌘+A selects every sprite on the active layer so you can drag them together.
- Handles
- Drag to move; corner handles resize; rotate handle turns the motif.
Grid & snap
On the Tile screen — editor guidelines only; never exported.
